The golden light the day I met up with Brittany was absolutely incredible! The sun dropped farther down in the sky sooner than we expected, but in the end everything worked out for the best—the light at the edge of that day’s end was so beautifully soft.
Now that I think about it, I’ve never shared a name with a client before up until Rachael turned out to be the winner of the holiday giveaway I hosted a few months back!
You know the session was fire when the brisk cold didn’t keep these 2 from nailing it! Alex and Dalton couldn’t have been more fun to spend the morning with.
I spent one of the most beautiful and mild fall mornings photographing Gina, her husband Jay and their children.
Akiya wanted her engagement session with Ian to have a “date night” look and feel.
And that’s exactly what I was happy to give her!
Miles and Kim are just about ready to head down the aisle, but not of course without booking their engagement session with me on a sun-soaked Sunday evening in downtown Detroit!
One of the most rewarding parts of being a photographer operating in the lifestyle industry is seeing someone’s family beautifully grow season to season, just like Brittany’s did!
… But, even with the cold, there’s so much that can be done with wintertime sessions. They’re underrated to say the least. The world dusted with snow, putting on the coziest winter clothing and accessories, etc. just makes for the cutest sessions, especially for couples like Caleb and Shimaya. And they understood the assignment all too well with their adorable matching winter boots!
For whatever reason, fall sunsets just naturally turn out to be way more golden than Summer ones - and I’m a sucker for all the golden hour light I can get at any given time, so this session with the Bigas family couldn’t have been any more of a success!
These two have a baby girl on the way shortly and wanted to take advantage of all the changing colors of fall creeping into the landscape!
… Turning 16 is still a big milestone, so why not celebrate in multiple ways that don’t include possibly throwing one of the biggest birthday parties of your life, but also having a keepsake to remember this special time during your teenage years by like a celebratory session just like Byron’s?
As having a strong social media presence becomes more and more prevalent, having a presence that’s both professional and casual, depending on which particular platforms you’re active on, becomes even more important!
… Putting myself in an urban environment forces me to do a little more with poses—but I will say that the Mitchell family, which includes my coworker Brandy, helped in the best of ways to make giving pose suggestions so easy! This isn’t the first time they’ve modeled for me, but I still can’t make up my mind between what was more fun with them—doing their first session back in the fall or now in the summer!
What’s Summer time without taking a trip to a local beach? Or more so a lake, if you grew up or live in the Midwest! Finding out that Malayna wanted me to do an elegant sunset session for her couldn’t have been more timely with Summer arriving at long last. Being out there near the calm waters of the lake we chose to shoot at helped to make it seem like more of a “normal” Summer, compared to last year’s.
… When I saw these gorgeously crafted tattoos of hers and also learned the meaning behind them, I near immediately realized how much these tattoos identify with the kind of person she is, what she values and what and who she’d like to remember for years to come. She’s never one to back down from pursuing her dreams, especially when it comes to her present career path, and never forgets where she comes from and to honor it gracefully and confidently.
You can seriously do so much with a birthday session to make it truly unique to who you are and your values, nothing even having to do with throwing confetti, holding onto balloons shaped into numbers, etc.! My close friend Marlaine decided that she’d like to honor her mother and grandmothers by acknowledging how much of a difference they’ve made in her life! She used her favorite photographs of her mother and grandmothers as inspiration.
... But it’s been a hot second since I’ve taken advantage of the architecture of the place via a session. For her senior session, Sonya knew she wanted to make the best use we could of the dozens of marble steps leading right up to the museum’s entrance—and the sunshine coming through that late afternoon we were there added the most beautiful golden glow to her shots!
... During our time together, Sarah confessed that she’s never had professional photographs done since she was younger! And especially when I look back on how things went, I couldn’t have been more shocked to learn this—had she not confided in me like that, I would’ve never thought that this was the first time in a long time that she had been in front of a lens. She was near immediately a complete natural! We couldn’t have had more fun exploring the historic grounds we were shooting in, especially since Sarah also had asked if I knew of any locations that brought to mind the architecture of a greenhouse.
... As unfortunate as it was to learn a day earlier that Abby’s health has been on the decline, which has lead Chloe to make the hard decision of euthanizing her sometime soon, I felt so grateful to take on the request of Chloe’s sister Angel to help capture one of the last beloved moments she’s to spend with Abby in the form of a surprise photo session.
… Especially if you currently have a logo as your profile picture like I have had for the longest time, it’s so refreshing to go on other photographer’s social media feeds and occasionally see who’s behind the camera of all the beautiful work I’ve been coming across. Take fellow creative Mikayla, for instance—she does an excellent job especially with reaching and getting in touch with people through her slice of life IG stories! But if you’re a little more shy about your video presence like I am, photos with informative captions about your brand and your everyday life as a creative can work just as well!
… With this shoot featuring Monique, the time we chose to meet up, along with it being the winter season, played a big role to easily get these styled shots during an early Sunday morning in Detroit! Monique and I practically had Parker’s alley, a tucked away aisle way separating The Shinola Hotel and the San Morello (restaurant) that had small-scale shops lining one side, all to ourselves the whole time we were there!
