Reflecting - Styled Shoot

It’s been a minute since I set up a styled shoot for myself! And fellow creative Candace C. volunteering to model for me outdid my expectations once again using nothing but a vintage mirror!

I’ve been eyeing this old frameless mirror propped up in my garage for a while now. And looking back, I wish I had used both the actual mirror right along with the original gold leaf frame it came with (which I found a couple days after the shoot, unfortunately.) But aside from that small loss, the actual glass of the old mirror was the most important prop and rightfully so—mirrors are just such versatile tools, because not only can you make use of the reflections of whatever happens to be around the subject holding it, but also the light that bounces off of a mirror’s glass.

And there’s countless amounts of meanings that are attached to mirrors and reflections too, mostly having to do with identity, mindfulness or contemplation. And therefore I wanted to do a shoot that highlighted these ideas, while also playing off of coming into the winter season, when things of the outside world are withering away with the rest of the year’s past harvest. Just bringing life to the idea of unavoidably making more room for self reflection during slowed down seasons with little to no harvest, especially in times of so much uncertainty concerning the future of politics, our careers and social lives, is what I was going for.
